Water Bores

Water bores are common in the Adelaide Metropolitan Plains, the LeFevre Peninsula, Adelaide Hills, Fleurieu Peninsula, Barossa Valley and Clare Valley areas of  South Australia. Town & Country Drilling Services has drilled in all these areas over the last 20 years, 12 of those under the currant owner and driller. Water bores drilled in some areas of the Adelaide Hills and Fleurieu Peninsula produce drinking quality water, while other areas the bore water is suitable for garden, stock and irrigation use only.

Due to the shallow depths water can be obtained and the construction of the bore a spearpoint pump is the most effective and widely used pump in the LeFevre Peninsula . All other areas submersible pumps are used to pump the water from the bores.

We have extensive experience in the selection, installation and maintenance of submersible pumps. When selected and installed in a suitable water bore we expect many years of trouble free life from a submersible pump. In many cases over the years the only time we hear back from customers is when they move to a new location and want another water bore drilled and pump installed.

Excerpt from a letter received from the Premier of South Australia, the Hon Jay Weatherill MP.

The temporary moratorium on permits for new bores in the Central Adelaide Prescribed Well Area was introduced in December 2007. This Was in response to declining water levels recorded in the shallow Adelaide Metropolitan Quaternary aquifer and a significant increase in the number of applications for permits for new bore being received.

The Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources maintains a network of monitoring well across the Central Adelaide Groundwater Area and is continually monitoring water level and salinity trends.

in September 2008, a review of the moratorium found that the aquifer was still showing signs of stress. As a result, a determination was made that the moratorium should remain in place until the aquifer shows acceptable levels of recovery.

The Department is currently evaluating data from the monitoring well network in this region as part of  its responsibility to keep the stature and condition of our water resources under review. I am advise that following the evaluation, the Department will consider options for the moratorium on permits for new bores in Central Adelaide Ground water Area.
